2023 Pantone Color of the Year & Its Importance

Pantone 2023 color of the year

When it comes to design, it is all about staying on top of the trends, whether it is trends in fashion, products, or décor in your home. Trends change each year, sometimes even multiple times per year, and it can be difficult to keep up with them. For the past 20 years, Pantone has been naming a “Color of the Year” to help trendsetters assess different styles and designs for the year ahead.

The “Color of the Year” is decided upon based off a committee of people who analyze a variety of different industries, and trends and patterns within those industries.

Since Pantone’s “Color of the Year” was born, it has had a huge impact on the design space, and many companies partner with Pantone to release exclusive versions of their products in the Pantone “Color of the Year.” Ultimately, the “Color of the Year” helps companies develop concepts for their branding and marketing but can also affect new design and décor trends in your surroundings, even your home!

Pink lovers – the year of 2023 is for you!

In case you have not already heard, the 2023 “Color of the Year” that Pantone has selected is Viva Magenta 18-1750.

Pantone Color of the Year 2023

Viva Magenta “vibrates with vim and vigor” and comes from the red family, inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes that belongs to the natural dye family, and one of the brightest the world has ever seen!

Viva Magenta highlights the importance of joyous and optimistic celebrations as well as writing a new narrative. AKA – 2023 is the perfect year for the fresh start that you have been pining for!

The 2023 “Color of the Year” resembles power, empowerment, encouragement, as well as self-expression. It was also chosen for being audacious, full of wit, and being inclusive of all.

There are already several collaborations that have been announced surrounding the announcement of Viva Magenta!

For example, Motorola and Pantone have created “Moto Magenta,” as part of a partnership where Motorola will be making its newly launched Motorola Edge 30 Fusion in the Pantone “Color of the Year.”

Further, Motorola will have a space within the ARTECHOUSE Miami exhibit so customers can engage with the newly designed technology and create their very own “Magentaverse.” ARTECHOUSE is the leader in innovative, technology-driven experiential art, and has produced an immersive art experience that provides a multisensory exhibit allowing guests to feel the power of a hue scaled to fantastical proportions. This exhibit launched during Art Basel in Miami Beach and opened to the public beginning on December 3rd.

Other brands that have already jumped on the Pantone “Color of the Year” wagon include Spoonflower, CARIUMA, Lenovo, as well as Hydrow (a magenta rower?! Yes, please)! You can for sure expect more brands to weave in the gorgeous Viva Magenta hue in the coming months.

If you are a magenta lover and fully on the Viva Magenta train, you may be looking for some ideas on how you can incorporate this trending color into your home for the year ahead.

Since magenta is an extremely bold color, you may want to consider pops of magenta in your rooms versus larger pieces of furniture.

For example, think about adding in items such as small rugs, lamps, throw pillows, or even a fuzzy blanket.

You can also incorporate magenta through pieces of art for the wall, frames, or even some bouquets of flowers!

And, you have the option to bring magenta into the kitchen with wine glasses, pans, trays, and more!

The opportunities are endless, so it is time to get creative!
