The luxury awning you chose for your home made it more functional and beautiful. It gave you space to enjoy and entertain outside, lowered your energy costs, and added extra curb appeal. Unfortunately, that awning you’ve loved and used for so long isn’t going to last forever.
If you’ve had your awning for a long time and aren’t sure whether it’s time to replace it or not, we can help. Keep reading to learn three signs you need to replace your awning so that you know what to look for.
Fabric Damage
Even if you do your best to protect your luxury awning, the weather can still damage it. And if we’re all honest, we probably forget to put up our awnings at times. That’s OK—no one’s perfect. Eventually, though, whether the weather or our own forgetfulness is the cause, the elements can damage our awning fabric.
The most common types of fabric damage are mold from too much rain exposure and fading from too much sun exposure. After too much wind or lots of use, parts of the fabric can fray and rip as well. If this damage becomes severe, you may have to replace your awning.
Structural Damage
The more we use our awnings and experience severe weather, the greater the chance that structural damage can occur. While structural damage is pretty rare, it can still happen, and it’s something you need to look out for.
Structural damage will often appear as some form of detachment. Either the frame of the awning will detach, or the awning fabric will start to rip and slide off the frame. In some cases, you may notice frame damage that isn’t detachment but some type of mechanical issue instead, like the arms not bending. When these damages and problems occur, you may have to replace your awning.
Technical Failure
Some luxury awnings are automated and even use sensors to determine when to open and close according to the weather. While this type of technological automation is helpful, it can also open you up to more problems.
When technology fails, it’s often more difficult to repair than something mechanical since technological failure is often less obvious and more difficult to fix. If the technology in your awning fails, then you may have to replace the entire awning.
Three signs you need to replace your awning include fabric damage, structural damage, and technical failure. While some of these problems are fixable, not all are, which means you’ll need to replace your awning. Luckily, there are tons of luxury awnings on the market that you can choose from that allow you to keep entertaining outside, saving on energy, and maintaining good curb appeal.
