Signs Your Drainage System Is in Need of Repair

Signs Your Drainage System Is in Need of Repair

When a drainage system needs repairs, there are often signs if you know what to look for. Small issues are easily fixed, as are larger ones if you catch them sooner rather than later. In this article, we’ll discuss the signs your drainage system is in need of repair so that you’ll know a problem when you see it.

Foul Odors

Problems with drainage systems aren’t just visible—you can sometimes smell them, too. If you notice a foul odor coming from any of the drains in your house, have a drainage specialist check them out. Foul odors are signs of a possible sewage leak. They can also stem from clogs, which cause water and waste to get stuck somewhere in the drainage system.

Slow Drainage

Slow or backed-up drains—or drains that seem to constantly have problems—are signs your drainage system is in need of repair. A slow drain may mean there’s something in the way further down the line.

An Extra Green Spot

We love a green yard, but if you notice that one area in particular looks a bit more lush than the rest of the yard, it could indicate a sewage leak. Sewage acts as a fertilizer, and if the pipes have sprung a leak, the grass will look lovely.

Bugs and Rodents

Moisture and sewage attract insects and rodents. That’s a good enough reason to keep an eye out for issues with your drainage system. When you notice an infestation of either, contact a drainage specialist to see if that’s the problem.

Puddles of Water

Nowhere on your property should there be unusual puddles of water. Some puddles are expected after a good rain, but if spots in the house—such as the basement—or in the yard seem to collect puddles for no reason, there may be a drainage problem. Always have pooling water areas checked out.

Underground tree roots, corrosion, and foreign objects can all cause clogs or leaks. Unfortunately, drainage systems can remain damaged for a long period of time before the homeowner notices a problem. The sooner you catch and fix any problems, the less costly and time-consuming the repairs are likely to be. Take your plumbing system seriously, maintain it well, and call a specialist as soon as you see signs of trouble. Today, with the help of Perm-Liner technology, drainage system specialists can repair pipes without destroying a yard or completely replacing a pipe.
