4 Simple Tips To Start a Garden

4 Simple Tips To Start a Garden

Starting your first garden is a daunting task. There are so many things that you have to consider when it comes to plants. Just willing the plants to stay up won’t work—you must earn that green thumb. That is why you should follow these four simple tips to start a garden.

Choose the Right Spot

Perhaps the most important thing is choosing the spot to grow the plants. A traditional garden takes root outside, but there are plenty of indoor and hanging garden varieties. Just make sure your area gets the right amount of sunlight and has access to good water for your plants.

Get Good Soil

Once you have an area set aside, you will want to get soil that can support your plants properly. If you have poor soil quality, your plants will not grow, no matter what you do. Make sure your soil is full of nutrients and can properly drain water.

Choose Your Plants

Choosing the plants to put in your garden is not as simple as grabbing the nearest seeds. You should take some time to plan out what plants you are going to grow. It is not a bad idea to choose your plants based on the conditions your area provides.

Hybrid or Heirloom

Another thing to consider when picking up plants is whether you should have hybrid or heirloom plants. The difference between hybrid and heirloom seeds is that hybrid plants are genetically bred to be resilient and easier to grow, while heirloom seeds are from past generations of farmers. There is a large debate between which one is better, but it is safe to say that many people believe that heirloom plants taste better than hybrids.

Once you have gone through these steps, you will need to take proper care of your plants. Feed and water them as often as each plant requires. Be careful not to overwater or feed them. By following these four simple tips to start a garden, you will have a lovely garden in no time!
