Budgeting For Your Dream Trip

Budgeting For Your Dream Trip

Everyone has a dream trip that they have always dreamed of going on. You have seen plenty of photos of the destination, videos of all the fun activities and adventures you can have there, and you have probably even seen some of your peers enjoying their time there. Perhaps you have always thought about planning to visit but never made a move. Well, there is no better time than now!

A dream trip can be attainable for anyone if they create a plan in advance. If you give yourself a year (or even two years!) to prepare, you can be in your favorite destination in no time!

So, if you were looking for a sign to start planning your dream trip – this is it.

Here are some of the ways that you can begin budgeting for your dream trip:

Look at the overall cost of your destination.

From a general standpoint, look at how much it costs (give or take) to visit your dream destination. With the flights, accommodations, food, and activities you have always dreamed of doing – what does that overall cost look like? This will help to give you a general idea of what your end goal will be through the saving process.

Know how much money you have coming in.

First off, look at how much money you have to work with after your bills are paid each month. This will help you to see overall how much you are able to put aside each month to begin budgeting for your dream vacation. Other than flights, you are generally able to visit a destination while still working in your budget. For example, if you are not able to afford any of the hotels in the area, check out some of the Airbnb’s that are around. There is always a way to make it work!

Spend the money you have differently.

Next, look at what your overall expenses are and what you can cut versus what you have to continue purchasing each month. Perhaps for the time being you cut some of your monthly subscriptions that you may not need or even frequently use anymore. Or you opt to make coffee at home instead of going out to get it during the week. There are many small ways that you can spend your money differently that will end up helping a lot in the long run!

Find a side hustle.

A side hustle is always a good idea, whether you are saving up for your dream vacation or not! A side hustle is a great way to explore your passions and hobbies while trying to simultaneously profit from them. Maybe you have always wanted to teach yoga in addition to your 9-5 desk job – start now! Many people also treat selling items they do not use anymore as a side hustle. Download apps such as Poshmark or utilize Facebook Marketplace to try and weed out some items that you do not need anymore and that you can make some extra cash on. Of course, all cash made from your side hustle should go directly towards your vacation fund.

Find small ways to save money during your travel.

Once you have your travel booked, if you still feel like you are cutting it close in terms of budget, think about small ways that you can save money throughout your travel that will not impact your trip or experience. For example, you do not necessarily have to eat out for every meal of the day – or maybe you have a smaller breakfast and save your funds for a nice dinner out! There are so many ways to get creative when it comes to saving money, allowing you to fully live out your dream!
