If you have not been to the Chart Room at Cataumet, make sure it is on your bucket list for this summer season.
The Chart Room has been open since 1966 and was first opened on board a converted New Jersey Center Railroad barge built around the turn of the last century. Overtime, once the Cataumet Marina was developed, visiting yachtsmen required dining facilities, and the idea of creating a restaurant in the barge was immediately born, with sidewalls being replaced and a kitchen added. Today, the roof remains the same with its massive beams and arched structure, and the floor is the original railroad planking.
The Chart Room opens each year in the spring and runs into fall weekends through Labor Day. The Chart Room’s mission is to provide customers with the best seafood available, and with a dining experience that they will not forget. Many of the menu options at the Chart Room are made in-house using the freshest ingredients available. At The Chart Room, you can enjoy a few drinks by the water or stop by for dinner with the family, and you can guarantee that the staff will make sure your experience is a positive one!
Check out some of my favorite dishes and drinks from The Chart Room.
THE BEST BITES.
To start, enjoy the Stuffed Quahogs, Steamers, Jerk Chicken Lollipops, or the Maine Crab Cake.
- The Stuffed Quahogs are served form the Cape waters and are made with a special, local Cape Cod recipe that you can only get from The Chart Room!
- The Jerk Chicken Lollipops are served with Jamaican Jerk seasoned chicken and a sweet mango chili aioli sauce.
- The Maine Crab Cake is an all-time favorite and must-try at The Chart Room, served over lightly dressed greens and topped with a fresh lemon aioli.
In addition, be sure to order the Chart Room Chowder as well as the Wedge Salad.
- The Chart Room Chowder is their very own classic Cape Cod Quahog chowder recipe and can be ordered in either a cup or a bowl.
- And the Wedge Salad is perfect to order for yourself or to share, served with a wedge of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese dressing, fresh tomatoes, and bacon bits.
For an entrée, try the Roast Prime Rib, Au Jus, Scallops, Baked Stuffed Shrimp, or the Lobster Salad.
- The Roast Prime Rib, Au Jus is perfect for those who are looking to enjoy something other than seafood. It is slow roasted and served on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
- The Scallops are baked in a casserole with butter, sherry wine, and seasoned breadcrumbs. The Baked Stuffed Shrimp is basked in a casserole with butter and delicious, savory shrimp stuffing.
- And the Lobster Salad is served with 5 oz. of fresh lobster meat with lettuce on a brioche hot dog roll, served at market price.
THE SEASIDE SIPS.
Some of my favorite cocktails to enjoy from the Chart Room include the Empress Has no Clothes, the Femme Fatale, the Nantucket Sleighride, the Paloma, and the Ranch Water.
- The Empress Has no Clothes is mixed with Empress Indigo Gin, fresh lemon juice, St. Germaine liqueur, and soda water.
- The Femme Fatale is super refreshing, served with Grey Goose pear vodka, St. Germain liqueur, grapefruit juice, and a splash of soda.
- The Paloma is mixed with Espolon 100% Blue Agave Blanco tequila with Q grapefruit soda, and the Ranch Water is served with Dulce Vida Blanco tequila, Topo Chico mineral water, and fresh lime juice.
- And of course, you cannot visit The Chart Room without ordering at least one Mudslide, mixed with “The Original” Bailey’s Irish cream, Kahlua and vodka.
