Cheever Tavern, Norwell, MA

Cheever Tavern in Norwell, Massachusetts is known for its flavorful, handmade food and drink that is always prepared with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients!

Whether you are dining inside, out on the deck, or beside the fire pit on the patio, you can always expect an equally tasteful and aesthetically pleasing setting when visiting Cheever Tavern.

Cheever Tavern is a contemporary American tavern that is situated in the historic Norwell Center, focusing on a nod to the past with a passion for today’s tastes.

The tavern was named after Pulitzer Prize winner, John Cheever, one of America’s premier authors of the 20th century. John Cheever was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, where he attended Thayer Academy and soon after published his first short story, “Expelled,” which focused on his time in school.

THE BEST BITES.

To start, be sure to try the Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Wagyu Beef Sliders, Buffalo Chicken Dip, or the Thai Chicken Salad.

  • The Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts are served with Vermont maple syrup and espelette chili.
  • The Wagyu Beef Sliders are perfect to share, served with Vermont cheddar, bacon-bourbon jam, and pickled onions.
  • The Buffalo Chicken Dip is served with house-blend cheese, shredded chicken breast, Cheever Tavern hot sauce, and hand cut lavash chip.
  • And the Thai Chicken Salad is served with Napa cabbage, snow peas, grilled chicken, soba noodles, bean sprouts, mandarin oranges, and spicy peanut dressing.

For entrees, if you’re in the mood for a savory Italian dish, try the Chicken Pappardelle, Catherine’s Fusilli Bolognese, Cauliflower Gnocchi.

  • The Chicken Pappardelle is served with chicken cutlet, pistachio pesto, arugula, tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, as well as avocado oil.
  • Catherine’s Fusilli Bolognese is served with fresh fusilli pasta and classic Italian ragout.
  • For a lighter option, the Cauliflower Gnocchi is served with house-made cauliflower gnocchi, diced asparagus, eggplant, pomodoro sauce, basil, and pecorino.

For other entrée options, try the Thai Basil Fried Rice, the Norwell Hot Chicken Sandwich, the Tavern Fig & Goat Flatbread, or Uncle John’s Steak Tips.

  • The Thai Basil Fried Rice is served with Thai vegetables, pan fried jasmine rice, and the option to add grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, salmon, or bourbon-marinated steak tips.
  • The Norwell Hot Chicken Sandwich is an ultimate favorite, served with buttermilk and corn chex fried chicken, Cheever Tavern hot sauce, ranch aioli, shredded lettuce, and sweet pickles on brioche.
  • The Tavern Fig & Goat Flatbread is served with fig, prosciutto, mozzarella, goat cheese, caramelized onions, and balsamic glaze.
  • And Uncle John’s Steak Tips is served with black angus teak tips, Bourbon marinade, mashed potatoes, and a delicious and fresh vegetable medley.

 

THE SEASIDE SIPS.

For cocktails, order the Blueberry Beret, The Sorrows of Gin, The Longshot, Casper the Spicy Margarita, as well as The Fourth Alarm.

  • The Blueberry Beret is mixed with blueberry vodka, hibiscus liqueur, lemon, and bubbles. The Sorrows of Gin is mixed with gin, pomegranate, lime, and ginger beer.
  • The Longshot is perfect for Bourbon lovers, mixed with Bourbon, lime, ginger, mint, and bubbles.
  • Casper the Spicy Margarita, one of my all-time favorites, is mixed with ghost tequila, orange liqueur, hibiscus, and sour.
  • And for another great tequila beverage, The Fourth Alarm is mixed with silver tequila, coconut, lime, and pineapple shrub.

If you are not in the mood for alcohol, order a mocktail! Try the Pineapple Refresher or the Pineapple Mint No-jito.

  • The Pineapple Refresher is mixed with pineapple shrub, lime, and ginger beer.
  • And the Pineapple Mint No-jito is mixed with soda, mint, pineapple, and lime.
