Effective Tips for Keeping Your Home Cool During the Summer

Effective Tips for Keeping Your Home Cool During the Summer

Sometimes the summer heat can become unbearable, especially when you don’t have an air conditioner. Luckily, you can relax inside with these effective tips for keeping your home cool during the summer. Keep your house comfortable to enjoy summer all season long.

Tint Your Windows

There are multiple benefits to window tinting, but one of the best reasons is blocking out the sun to keep the room cool. If you do not want to install tinting on every window, consider covering the largest windows that allow the most sun to filter into the room. Since the tinting blocks sunlight, the room’s temperature will not rise.

Close Unoccupied Rooms

If you have rooms in your home that you do not often use, close them off. This stops the cool air accumulating elsewhere in the house from dissipating into the room. Close all vents in the room as well; this minimizes the work your AC unit puts in to cool down your home.

Set Ceiling Fans To Counter-Clockwise

Did you know there are two settings to a ceiling fan? In the summer, set your fan to rotate counterclockwise; this rotation actually pushes the cooler air sitting above your head down toward the floor, cooling off the entire room.

Use an Additional Fan

You can install a fan in an open window to sweep in cool air from the outside. However, you may be placing your fan incorrectly. Instead of putting the fan directly up to the screen, place it a few inches away; this allows the fan to pull in more air than if it were right up against the window screen. Some people like to put a bowl of ice in front of the fan, which provides an immediate gust of cool air.

When the weather outside becomes unbearable, you’ll want a place to sit in the cool air and relax. Stay comfortable this summer with these effective tips to keep your home cool.
