Driven North | Episode 9: Good-bye Canada – back to the good old US of A!

Leaving Revelstoke

Well, this is the end of a chapter but far from the end. We took our time getting ready to leave and decided to drive into Revelstoke just to check out the town before we left. We happened to run into a big farmers market in town. We got some gorgeous vegetables and had a nice time just wandering. We then hit the road again.

Okanagan Journey

We headed out away from the Rockies and into the beautiful Okanagan district of Canada. This region is wine country and desert. Having said that there are many lakes even though the landscape is dry. It is beautiful out here and visually different. There were big meandering lakes and many many wineries on the way. We stopped by Waterside winery to check out how the wine is in the area. Surprisingly, we liked the whites more than the red and drank some wine and just relaxed and enjoyed the view. Shortly thereafter we arrived at our Harvest Host for the evening. It was a family run farm called Good & Plenty (very cute). The hosts were on their way out but pointed us to a spot in the field and we set up for the evening. We had the farm to ourselves and spent a relaxing evening cooking dinner and just hanging out together. We spent some time figuring out our next steps once entering the US again.

Final days in Canada

The next morning dawned gorgeous but hot. It was going to go up to 98 degrees! Our next location was a harvest host right at the border inside Canada at a local winery. We meandered our way through water views and wineries. It was just beautiful. We had lunch pulled off the side of the road looking out across the water. This is beautiful country. We arrived at our evening location. A beautiful winery in Osoyoos called Mythology Vineyard. We pulled in and while it was hot it was not uncomfortable. The site was beautiful and we met another couple who had just arrived (also Harvest Hosters) and did a tasting with them and got along great! We ended up spending the entire evening with them drinking the great wine of the area and talking about life. They were incredibly sweet and cooked us dinner. The evening was beautiful (the days are hot but the nights go down to 59 degrees) and it was time well spent.

Forward to the USA adventure

We are now hanging out with our new friends Brian and Nancy before heading out back into the US. We are sad to let go of Canada but looking forward to the cheaper gas prices in the US. We are looking forward to the new adventures in Washington State, Oregon and Idaho. We have decided not to do the coast this time (saving that for a separate trip) and spend the time exploring areas unknown to both of us.

Thank you Canada! We have truly enjoyed our time here! Onward and south-eastward!
