How to Make Your Home Look Upscale on a Budget

Making some new, fresh updates to your home will always feel good. Whether you are looking to make updates to your home to give yourself an updated vibe and change of scenery, or you are preparing to eventually put your home on the market, redecorating is always a fun task and great opportunity to get creative.

When it comes to redecorating and changing things up, many people fear overspending in an effort to achieve the exact look that they are dreaming of. Realistically, there are a lot of ways that you can make your home look more upscale and expensive without having to break the bank.

Check out some tips and tricks on how you can make your home look like the magazines without hurting your wallet.

Make your home look more upscale with neutrals

Change your hardware.

People may be surprised at what a change of hardware can do. Take some basic cabinets or drawers in your home and replace your hardware with some uniquely designed or shiny gold knobs to achieve a major wow factor that will wow you and your guests. While this is a super small detail, it will add a nice contrast and pop of color to the overall look of your room.

Declutter.

Decluttering is always a nice way to clean things up and achieve a modern, minimalistic look. The best part about decluttering? It will not cost you a dime! While you are decluttering, create separate piles for items that you are going to keep, items that you may want to consider selling, items you can donate, and items you can throw into the trash. This is a great way to get yourself organized and also rid yourself of items that you have been holding on to that you never use. Ensure that every item you choose to keep has a “home” and somewhere that you can easily store it.

Use white bed linens and towels.

Picture yourself at your favorite luxury hotel – with white linens, bathrobes, and towels. You can easily recreate this in the comfort of your own home with some nice, crisp white linens! There are a lot of budget-friendly sheets, plush comforters, pillowcases, and towels for your bathroom that you can purchase. By adding in a nice, light color like the color white, you are brightening up the room and creating a high-end, luxurious spa look and feel. Who would not want to come home to that every day?!

Add flowers or plants.

Adding plants to your rooms of your house in general is great for health benefits such as improving air quality, reducing stress, supporting your cognitive health, as well as adding in some natural elements in general. Plants are a great way to promote a “zen” energy in your home. And, if you are into flowers, purchase some statement vases for bouquets that will add a pop of color in your room and perhaps even a seasonal vibe if you choose to implement those specific colors.

Choose natural materials.

In each of the rooms of your home, try your best to incorporate as many natural materials as possible. For example, look for real marble, wood furnishings that are solid and truly wood, and other materials that will not come off as cheaply made. When it comes to pieces that are natural materials, they can often be more expensive, so it is always a good idea to look for them secondhand – people are constantly selling pieces of furniture they no longer need or use that are in perfect condition!

Focus on neutrals with pops of color.

It is always smart to stick to neutrals in every room, that way you have a solid baseline and can make small updates throughout the room with new colors if you are looking for a change. When it comes to neutrals, consider purchasing items in neutral colors such as curtains, furniture, paint for the wall, and area rugs.
