How To Properly Dispose of Furniture

How To Properly Dispose of Furniture

Buying new furniture for your home is an exciting event and can help breathe new life into your home. But you must then decide what to do with that old furniture, so it doesn’t take over all of your extra space. While some furniture companies offer haul-away service for old furniture when they deliver your new purchase, buyers may also be left to figure out what to do if the company doesn’t include it. Here are some ways how to properly dispose of furniture that lets you enjoy your new set.

Sell It All

One option for getting rid of that old couch is to sell it. Many websites and social media pages offer marketplaces to sell things. You might be able to make a small amount of money from the piece of furniture while having somebody else haul it away for you. The same is also true for garage sales, estate sales, and swap meets.

Donate It

A donation, like selling, is a great way to get rid of the furniture problem. Organizations, shelters, and thrift stores are always on the lookout for quality used furniture that they can turn around and resell. While you won’t make any money from donating your previous kitchen table, many times the thrift store will come to you to pick up the donation—especially in larger cities. This prevents you from having to find a way to get the furniture to them yourself.

To the Trash

In some cities, they will accept anything that you put at the end of the curb for trash. If your neighborhood trash service offers this option, it is usually the simplest method. You can simply leave it out for the weekly pickup service and then not have to worry about it again. If you can’t just leave things, you may need to contact your waste management company to see if you can schedule a pickup for your old desk. If that’s not an option, you may need to take it to a landfill yourself. Either way, they are the best ones to tell you how to properly dispose of furniture that you don’t want or need anymore.

Junk Removal Service

A junk removal service, as the name suggests, will come in and haul away your former mattress without a second thought. This type of service gives you the option of scheduling it for when it is most convenient for you. Aside from old furniture, a junk removal service can return your home to normal after disaster strikes. This method is ideal for anybody showing signs of hoarding furniture or other storage concerns.
