How to Refresh Your Home Décor in the New Year

New Year Decor

The New Year is the perfect time for a fresh start, whether that means working on getting healthier, getting more focused on your career, or getting organized in general. Now that the holidays have wrapped up and you are putting away all holiday decorations and working on getting your home back in order, you may be finding that your décor feels a bit stagnant.

During the winter months especially when we are spending so much time inside, it can be easy to get sick of your surroundings, so it is important to spice up the interior of your home every once in a while. When you are changing up the atmosphere of your home, you do not need to necessarily full renovate or redo a room completely.

There are a bunch of small design tweaks and updates that you can make in the New Year that will not break the budget but will make all the difference in terms of feeling like your home is refreshed.

Check out some of our favorite ways to refresh your home in the New Year that are easy and totally doable for everyone.

Wallpaper accent walls in the New Year1 – Try out some new wallpaper.

Are you finding that one of your rooms is just plain boring? Avoid investing in new furniture or decorations by simply adding some wallpaper to one, or all of the walls in your room. Wallpaper tends to have a reputation as being old or not aesthetically pleasing, which could not be farther from the truth. Wallpaper nowadays is super modern, easy to install all on your own, and can make a boring room look super fun.

If you are nervous about adding wallpaper to a room, try to start with one wall that can serve as an accent wall, or test the wallpaper out in a smaller area in your home such as a laundry room. Regardless of whether you like the wallpaper or not, remember that it is super easy to remove and is not permanent!

Greenery in the New Year2 – Add greenery.

This year is the year that you become a plant parent! Adding greenery into the rooms of your home is a great way to add in some more life and brighten up an area. Plants can be placed in the corner of a room, on a windowsill, on your desk, or even hung from the ceiling. There are so many different types of plants and ways to incorporate them that you can consider based on the setup of your room and design of your home.

Not only is greenery a gorgeous addition to your home, but it also has a ton of health benefits as well, such as fighting sicknesses and improving your mood – two things that are absolutely crucial for the winter months ahead in New England!

Organize your closet3 – Get organized.

Getting organized is key for kicking off the New Year, so take this time to go through your belongings and declutter as best as you can. When decluttering, set up bins for items that you would like to toss, donate, and sell, and take your time deciding what items work for each bin if you do not plan to keep them. Make sure that every item in each room of your home has its own “home” or space so that it is not regularly lying out.

As you are getting organized, think about new and refreshing ways that you can store items, such as new baskets, new ways to organize your cabinets, and new ways to utilize space in your closets.

Paint the walls in your home4 – Paint.

Painting is one of, if not the easiest way to refresh your space. Repainting may seem like a small task, but it will make a huge difference. You can choose to repaint a room the same color, just giving it a little refresh, or choose a new color that will totally transform the space.

Whatever you choose, make sure that the color is neutral enough to withstand any changes that you make to the décor or furniture in the New Year.
