KAVA Neo-Taverna, Boston, MA

KAVA Neo-Taverna Restaurant

If you are obsessed with Mediterranean food, you must visit KAVA in Boston, Massachusetts. KAVA’s menu is comprised not only of replicated Greek recipes, but of food brought in directly from the Mediterranean. This includes a wide range of mezedes, or small plates; imported feta cheese, horiatiki salad, and an ever-changing selection of fresh-from-the-Mediterranean seafood, including lavraki seabass, and grilled octopus.

In addition to delectable menu items, KAVA also offers a bar stocked up with hard-to-find Greek wines and liquors, plus the usual list of spirits and craft beers. They also offer Greek coffee and traditional frappes, along with desserts like baklava, Greek yogurt, and honey (also imported from Greece), and more. KAVA is one of the best spots in Boston to get some, real, authentic, and fresh Greek cuisine.

THE BEST BITES.

KAVA Neo-Taverna Best Bites

To start, share some small plates, including the Pikilia, Feta Psiti, Kolokithakia, Saganaki Garides, as well as the Imam.

  • The Pikilia is made for dip lovers, served with a cucumber yogurt dip, spicy feta spread, and eggplant dip.
  • For some more feta, enjoy the Feta Psiti, wrapped in phyllo, honey, and sesame seeds.
  • The Kolokithakia is another great option to share, served with zucchini chips with tzatziki.
  • The Saganaki Garides is served with baked shrimp, peppers, onion, spicy tomatoes, and feta. And lastly, the Imam is served with eggplant, tomato, onion, garlic, and kasseri cheese.

If you are in the mood for a fresh salad, be sure to order the Horiatiki or the Maroulosalata.

  • The Horiatiki salad is served with tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, red onion, olives, capers, feta cheese, oregano, and olive oil.
  • And the Maroulosalata salad is served with romaine, herbs, olives, feta cheese, and a tasty yogurt vinaigrette.

For entrees, some of my favorites include the Lavraki, Mousaka, the Uvetsi, as well as the Mixed Grill.

  • The Lavraki is served with a fresh, grilled Mediterranean sea bass. For a cozier entrée, you cannot go wrong with the Mousaka, served with layers of potato, roasted eggplant, beef ragout, and a bechamel sauce.
  • The Uvetsi is served with a braised beef short rib over orzo.
  • The Mixed Grill is served with lamb chops, chicken skewer, pork skewer, as well as Greek sausage.

Along with your entrees, you must order some sides to share. Some of my favorites include the Greek Fries, the Bamies, the Kounoupidi, as well as the Patates Lemonates.

  • The Greek Fries are topped with fresh feta and oregano.
  • The Bamies are served with okra, fresh tomato, herbs, and garlic.
  • The Kounoupidi is served with oven-roasted cauliflower as well as spicy tomato.
  • And the Patates Lemonates are served with potatoes, lemon, oregano, and olive oil.

THE SEASIDE SIPS.

Along with the delicious food, KAVA has some awesome cocktails that you must try!

A few of my favorites to order include the Athenian Spritz, the Cucumber Tonic, the Spicy Margarita, as well as the Tsipouro Mule.

  • The Athenian Spritz is mixed with Otto’s Athens Vermouth, cava, tonic, and orange bitters.
  • The Cucumber Tonic is super refreshing, mixed with cucumber vodka, fresh cucumber, tonic, and thyme.
  • The Spicy Margarita is a perfect go-to for tequila lovers, mixed with ghost tequila, triple sec, honey syrup, and lime juice.
  • And lastly, the Tsipouro Mule is mixed with tsipouro, ginger beer, lime juice, and jalapeno.

KAVA also has a variety of beers and wines on their menu, including both white and red wines straight from the Islands, Northern Greece, as well as the mainland!
